Soul Vendors

Brain Atkinson was born in Kingston, Jamaica and attended Rusea High School in Lucea, Hanover. After graduating, he joined with a number of well-known musicians in Kingston (Jackie Mittoo, Roland Alphanso, Joe Isaacs, Bobby Ellis, and Carlton Samuels)
to form the Soul Brothers band, (later called Soul Vendors).

Veteran music producer, and owner of Studio One recording studio, Coxsone Dodd, released their recordings under various names, like: Soul Brothers, Jamaica All Stars, Sound Dimension, and Soul Vendors.

Later, members of Soul Vendors band formed "The Jets" with
Lynn Taitt.

In 1969, Brian was offered the position of band leader of
The Mighty Quinns, a dynamic band from Sav-la-mar, Jamaica,
owned by Owen Sinclair, an astute local businessman, affectionately called "Hurry Hurry".

The Mighty Quinns were: Brian Atkinson (leader and bass player), Eugene Grey, lead guitarist, Dalton James (Debo), drummer,
Burt Johnson (Mudd), lead singer, Desmond Baker, singer,
Sammy, tenor sax and Ivan Boxx, keyboard player.

After honing their skills locally, by playing at all the major concerts, fetes and events in Sav-la-mar, including the Jamaican Festival celebrations and events at Mannings High School, as well as, in other parishes on the island, the band travelled overseas to the island of Bimini, in the Bahamas, where they became the resident band at the Bimini Hotel.

After a year, the band returned to Jamaica and began playing at the then world-famous cabaret nightclub, "Yellow Bird" in Montego Bay, which was then owned and operated by Montego Bay businessman, Norris Barnes. After a few months, the band opened their own nightspot in Montego Bay, called "Rendezvous", at the Summit Hotel, with nightly appearances by Bob Andy, Marcia Griffiths, Ken Boothe and others.

Following that, Brian migrated to Canada, where he now resides and leads the Soul Vendors Band.
