Soul Vendors Band |
This is the official Website of Brain Atkinson, band leader, bass player and founding member of the world-famous Studio One Band, from Jamaica, called "The Soul Vendors". This band was also referred to by other names: Sound Dimension, Soul Brothers, Jamaica All-Stars, Brentford All-Stars and The Jets by Sir Clement "Coxone" Dodd as a marketing strategy.
Brian Atkinson, (Bassie, as he was affectionately called by Sir Coxsone Dodd, owner of Jamaica Recording Studio, located on Brentford Road in Kingston, Jamaica), along with other band members, Joe Isaacs, Harry Haughton, Jackie Mittoo, Hux Brown, Roland Alphonso, Lynn Taitt, Headly Bennett, Lester Sterling, Lennox Brown, Sam Samuels and Ska Campbell, were responsible for crafting and originating the sound, now referred to as The Studio One sound. As the bass player for Soul Vendors, Brian Atkinson played on, and recorded with, various internationally known Jamaican artistes, including Bob Marley and the Wailers, Jackie Mittoo, Alton Ellis, Kingstonians (Winie Winie), Johnny Nash, Vic Franklyn, Hopeton Lewis, the Clarendonians, Delroy Wilson, Dennis Brown and many others...We are very happy that you have visited our site and we invite you to browse around in order to learn more about this extraordinary, Jamaican musical pioneer.
